The 5th annual North Dakota Grape Harvest Festival will be held on Saturday August 21, 2010 at the Red Trail Vineyard at Buffalo, ND. The Festival will include Craft and Food Vendors, Vineyard Tours, Hay Rides, Wine Tasting, Grape Stomping and Blue Grass Music featuring Monroe Crossing. This event continues to grow every year. The number of vendor spaces left is limited. Pruning Clinics set for April 16 and 17, 2010 The NDGGA will be sponsoring two pruning clinics this spring. The first will be held Friday, April 16, 2010 beginning at 9:30 AM at the North Central Research & Extension Center, south of Minot. The second clinic will be held the next day, Saturday, April 17, 2010 beginning at 9:30 AM at the Buffalo Community Center in Buffalo, ND. Both sessions will be led by the eminent viticulturalist John Marshall from Lake City, MN and will conclude with some practical hands-on pruning in the vineyard. The cost to attend is $10 and includes refreshments and a noon meal for those who pre-register. As an added bonus, attendees can get cuttings of some of the more promising varieties from the Absaraka vineyard (Alpenglow, Somerset Seedless, others?). Feel free to bring your own cuttings of non-patented varieties for a cutting swap. The Grape and Garlic Festival will be held in Minot, ND at the Minot Municipal Auditorium. Steve Sagaser will be presenting "Country Wine Making Basics" from 1:00 -2:00 PM.

The NDGGA SUMMER TOUR will be on Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at the NDSU Horticulture Research Farm at Absaraka. You will have an opportunity to learn about grape diseases, phylloxera and other grape insects, herbicide injury, trellising methods, winter injury, wine quality factors, and much more. Come early and bring a sack lunch if you wish. The day will conclude with a meal and wine social at the Red Trail Vineyard beginning at 6:00 PM. The price of admission is $25 a person, or $15 for NDGGA members who pre-register. Watch your mailbox or inbox for more details.

February 7, 2009 - NDGGA Education Session and Annual Meeting; Chieftan Inn, Carrington
Beginning at 9:30 AM, hear nationally-known viticulturist Mike White from Iowa State University speak on the marketing aspects of small individual vineyards and wineries as well as marketing and promoting a statewide grape and wine industry. Past President Rodney Hogen will report on the demand outlook for grapes from North Dakota's wineries. Jeff Peterson will present a legislative update for this year's session in Bismarck. President Greg Krieger will report on the findings of last year's petiole testing program and its implications for fertility needs for the state's vineyards. Dr. Harlene Hatterman-Valenti will present an update on the NDSU grape research program. There will be a panel discussion featuring area growers and winemakers. Steve Sagaser will give a presentation on home winemaking. After the annual meeting, we will have a wine social. Attendees are encouraged to bring samples of homemade grape wine for it if they wish. We wil finish the evening with a banquet. Both meals are included in the price of admission ($30 a person). To register, contact Greg Krieger or call 701-430-0281.
September 6, 2008 - NDSU Grape Research Presentation and NDGGA Summer Vineyard and Winery Bus Tour
There will be a bus leaving Bear Creek Winery in Fargo at 10:00 AM and returning at 3:30 PM. Bear Creek is located at the intersection of 25th St and 88th Ave South in Fargo (south of the new Shanley School). The time on the bus will be well-spent hearing about the lastest NDSU grape research and other aspects of grape growing, and having questions answered by grape experts. The tour is open to the public.
We will travel to the NDSU research site near Absaraka, visit North Dakota's newest winery, Prairiewood Winery, just west of Lisbon, and stop at Kindred Spirits vineyard north of Kindred before returning to Fargo. A sack lunch will be provided on the bus and a hearty meal and wine tasting will be provided at the end of the tour. The cost is $15 per person. Reservations on a first come, first served basis can be made by contacting Rudy Radke at rudy.radke@ndsu.edu or 701-356-0222 and making payment.
